Decreased hearing acuity in the high-frequency range is often the first sign of hearing loss. Following your hearing test, your hearing professional will explain your test results using an audiogram.

I also imagine that some people have tinnitus above 8 khz and may be helped by a hearing aid that goes beyond that. However, many places have audiometers that only go up to 8 khz. A -9 dbFS sweeping sine tone, from 22 kHz (supposedly inaudible) down to 8 kHz (if you can't hear this one, consider checking your hearing). On the top of the test tone, a voiceover tells you which frequency is currently playing.
